Phonics Puzzle with Popsicle Sticks

Here is a really simple puzzle that I made to get kids reading and rhyming with basic CVC words!

This puzzle is easy to make and easy for kids to use. To make the puzzle write 'Start here' on the left end of a stick and add a word on the right end. Continue building the puzzle adding more sticks under the first. You will need to add a rhyming word and a new word on each stick.

Once it is done give it to the kids to put together!

This is a great way to get kids reading CVC words and rhyming CVC words!
Simple to make, easy to use and fun too! That has to be a winner!

  5. This is cute...So does ONLY word need to rhyme in the set .? For Example: Sun and Dog stacked upon each other obviously don't rhyme...

    1. Hi Heather,
The puzzle starts with children using the Start Here stick. It has bag on it. The find the stick with a word to rhyme with bag and put it under bag - rag. The stick with rag has fan on the other end. So next they find a word to rhyme with fan - man. This one has hat on the other end and they find sat to rhyme with it. They keep building it in this way. Hope the photo makes this clearer.
Thanks for visiting my blog! :)

    1. Hi Patricia, This should work with any rhyming words. I would try silent e words, e.g. cake, make, nine, fine etc. You could also try words with r controlled vowels, e.g. cork, fork, bird, third etc. Hope this helps. Also words with end consonant blends like went, went, hand, sand. Hope this helps!
