Want more Halloween Math Fun?
Check out this simple Halloween Math Puzzle that I made -
This one is sure to get kids thinking! They have to create an addition equation from the numbers in each ghost. With the first one 1, 2, 4, 9 and 3 you could make 32+9=41.
Make your own by drawing several ghost shapes on a large sheet of paper then write the digits for an equation in each. You can choose equations that are as simple or as complex as you like.

It also works for subtraction, multiplication or division equations.

Halloween Literacy Freebies

Halloween can be one of the greatest motivators in the classroom!
That's why I have created some Halloween literacy activities that will get kids playing around with Halloween words and composing spooky Halloween stories.
I have 2 sets of Halloween Literacy Freebies and also a set of Halloween Literacy Puzzles and Games.

The Halloween Literacy Freebie contains two printable Halloween Word Puzzles.
The Halloween Literacy Puzzles Freebie has 2 Halloween Word Puzzles. It is available now at

In Who's Coming to the Party students are given the names of the who will be at the Halloween party but all of the vowels are missing. Some words will be easy but some are sure to challenge them!

This Halloween Word Search and Riddle puzzle is much more than just a word search. After children have solved the word search they are rewarded with a Halloween riddle but they will have to work out the answer for themselves!

Another great idea for Halloween is to have children compose some spooky stories. I have created a collection of Halloween Story Starters at

There are 7 story starters for students to choose from. You can print each and display as is or cut around the webs and make a chart with them like I have done.
These spooky story starters are sure to fire up their imagination!

Here is another really simple idea for a Halloween Word Game.
The game can be played by 2 players or 2 teams.
Draw a grid of about 8x8 on a piece of paper or a whiteboard.
Fill the grid with Halloween themed words. You can read the words going across the grid in the photo above.
Now the players or teams take turns to make a word from the letters in the grid and cross off the letters.
The letters can be anywhere on the board not like a word search where the letters have to be in a line. In the photo above the first player has crossed off the letters for 'crow'.
The last player or team who can make a word is the winner.
This is a great game for spelling skills.

If you want more Halloween Literacy, I also have a set of Halloween Literacy Puzzles and Games.

This collection has 7 Halloween Word Puzzle sheets and 5 Halloween Board Games with a literacy focus. You can seem more about it at -

Hope you like these Halloween Literacy activities!
Have a Spooktacular Halloween!

Adding a little bit of Halloween to your math means adding loads and loads of fun too!

Halloween Fractions

Here is a really simple way to have some fun with fractions at Halloween.
Brainstorm a list of Halloween words then calculate the fraction of consonants and vowels.
This is a great activity for developing the concept of fractions.
Playing games is also a great way to incorporate Halloween into Math time. That's why I have created 4 new sets of Halloween Math Games for grades 1 to 4.

Halloween Math Games Grade by Grade

These sets allow students to practise and review basic math concepts for their grade while they have so much fun that they don't even realize that they are actually learning!
Each set contains 14 printable Halloween Games. The games are a mix of board games and No Prep game sheets for 2 players. These games are ideal for Halloween math centers, fast finishers or even Halloween homework. Let me show you a few games from each set.

These games are from Halloween Math Games First Grade.
The Count Dracula Board Game has children count their way around the board.
In Halloween Spooky Pairs Add to 10, the players take turns to color a pair of adjoining numbers that add to 10. The last player to color a pair is the winner.

You can see more of what is in this set at

These are from the Second Grade set of Halloween Math Games.
In the Halloween 13 Bats Board Game, the players take turns to cover 2 or 3 numbers that add to 13. In the Halloween Pairs 11, 12 or 13, the players color pairs of adjoining numbers that add to the total in the bat.

Multiplication Fun

This is a really simple activity for developing the concept of multiplication.
I start by having the children fold their paper into eight sections. (with a mini lesson on fractions or shapes while they do, of course)
Next they roll 2 dice. One dice tells them how many circles to draw and the other one tells them how many crosses to put in each circle. They then write a multiplication equation for the groups they have drawn.
If they aren't ready to record an equation, they can write 'groups of' instead, e.g. 3 groups of 4 is 12.

Here is another fun multiplication activity that really makes them think.
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Multiplication-1199527
This game sheet is from my Multiplication No Prep Games Freebie.
It has the players search for a line of 3 numbers that can be used to create a multiplication equation.
I love this game because it really makes them think and they love the challenge of being the last one to find a line of 3 numbers.
You can download it from Multiplication FREEBIE No Prep Games

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Multiplication-1199527

The next three games are from my Multiplication No Prep Games Collection.

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Multiplication-Games-NO-PREP-Longest-Line-1197085
Pizza Find a Line is just like the game above. Players hunt for a line of 3 numbers that can be used to create a multiplication equation.

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Multiplication-Games-NO-PREP-Longest-Line-1197085
In Spaceship Multiply by 2, the players roll 2 dice, add the numbers and multiply the total by 2. They then color the answer. Play continues until one player creates a line of 4. This is great for reviewing multiplication and while they do they are also using strategic thinking to play the game!

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Multiplication-Games-NO-PREP-Longest-Line-1197085
In this game, players have to color a matching fact and answer on each turn. The winner is the person who creates the longest line of squares in their color. The great thing about this game is that if they want to block the other player they can't avoid the fact in that square. They are forced to work it out or the other player will use it!

These games and many more are available now at Multiplication Games NO PREP Longest Line .
